We believe the key element in helping single moms is by helping them to be more self sufficient. One of the ways we can do this is by helping them start their own small business.

First recipient

Mariela is our first single mom that we have helped starting her own business. In June 2025 we helped her get started by providing her with a small sewing machine, some fabric and basic supplies to get started.

Letter from Mariela

Hi, my name is Mariela, and I am a single mother of 8 children. I am a woman with many dreams and goals. For this I am very grateful to Cindy and John who has never left my side and has always helped me and my children. Now I have a dream to start my own small business so I can pay my own expenses and those of my children who are all studying here in Costa Rica. The benefits for women in Costa Rica who have not completed high school are very few. I want to do something that will strengthen me and allow me to take care of my children. I can do many things like cooking, sewing and hair dressing, but these things cost a lot to do here. I know that God can help me improve my life. My life has not been easy as I become a mom at the age of 15. I have made mistakes due to the bad decisions that I have made but I have always been with my children, and they are my strength. John and Cindy have always been there for us even in my worst moments. They have been like parents, friends and give me emotional and spiritual support. They are my angels that have been sent from heaven and have taught me about God and that He does exist. Please I am asking you to help me start my own small business so I can pay my expenses and take care of my children. I want to be a good example for my children. I do not have anyone to help me except for God and John and Cindy who have never left me. I am very thankful to John and Cindy and there are no words to describe how grateful I am.
